Waiting for the rest of our team to invade the builiding we moved to. I think it will be good to all be in one spot, and especially to have the supervisor I am not replacing back with us. She was in today, and she brought a new(ish) guy with her.
He has been doing work for an obscure and messed up sister company. We just ditched a temp who failed appallingly at learning things. Today this guy learned what she failed in six working days. He did it in a couple of hours - which is much better than a normal person.
He arrived while I was away with Handover. When I came back, someone pointed and introduced him. I said hello, then he got to hear an extended rant about Handover, and management of this client.
Then I had the now standard 'You'll get used to me being a grumpy Bitch' speech. New Chick supported my grumpy theory, so I had a grumpy rant about how it must be better to be totally upfront about the way you are and that way people know where they stand. Extended grumpy chat followed, and he loves my way of saying that I am crap. Someone goes 'How are you?' and I put on my best happy and perky voice to say 'Crap!!' with a big smile.
Then he left and I talked with Whatsisname about how I really do enjoy being stupid sometimes, because the way you know how things work is by seeing when they don't. My brain included. Then we went off into Edward De Bono talk.
New guy comes back and we talk about idiots. (Who needs to actually work, anyway?) At the end of the various rants about idiots - I get to the 3 degree guy, and the fact that my dropping out of high school makes me an overachiever sailed right over his head.
*Then* I realised that all this intelligent chat meant I had a degreed person involved. And he has some qualifications that actually impress me. I said that even though NLP is involved, he doesn't strike me as a wanker.
Confusion reigned until the bit where I said "I think you are mistaking my 'w'(said as wuh) as a 'b'(buh)".
He reckons he can have me thinking positive in no time. Then he did seem to agree that if I am honestly at ease with being grumpy... I don't need programming.
Fascinating, and a very nice guy. After just a short meet. Oh - and we had a funny chat about tattoos. He likes Douglas Adams, and Red Dwarf.
Also today, I have really started bonding in an appalling way with chick from client I like but no longer look after. She left home early - and she sent me pictures of her rats! Sometimes I still miss my rat.
