How do you spot-clean a cat?

I had a crap day today.

My cat got out while people were going to work. So I got up to a note on the fridge that the "MOUSE IS OUTSIDE". She didn't come back until about half three, which gave me hours in which to fret.

When she did come home, she was a sad moggy. Covered in motor oil, which then had attracted an extra coat of dust. Slight limp, looked like she'd had a minor run-in with a car.

So then we had the added joy of a bath. It would be suckfull to be a cat who'd had a bad adventure then finally made it home... to be put through the added trauma of a bath. It wasn't as bad as other cats I've had, though. I think it helped that I threw in a ping-pong ball.

Now she's had time to dry off, and has been quite happy to stay on my bed. But - I've missed a spot! No way I'm bathing her again for just one spot. I don't know whether to leave it be, or to try spot-cleaning. It's one of those back-of-the-head places where she won't be able to clean it off herself.

Hmmm.
